At the age of 30, Le Thi Hong Dao pocketed an additional national championship. She won the gold medal of 60kg female ages 19-40 at the Boxing Championship of the nationwide strong teams 2022 after surpassing My An loyal fighter (Army 1). However, Boxing is not the only martial arts.

As a young athlete in the Tay Ninh delegation, Dao is only really charming with sports when moving to practice and traditional martial arts. Since then, the girl born in 1992 has become a unique phenomenon of Vietnamese martial arts when recognized as a 5 -martial generals: Traditional martial arts, Muay, Boxing, Wushu and Kickboxing.

Dao can be a special case of a athletes pursuing martial arts when playing up to 5 martial arts and all won the title of general, but she was not the only one. Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Army are rare units with fighters not playing more than 1 martial art at the same time.

For other units, especially in remote areas, the fact that a player competes in many martial arts is not too rare. In the case of units like Hai Phong or Nghe An, boxers often play 3 subjects boxing, kickboxing and traditional martial arts. This also applies to specialized coaches.

“Each martial art like boxing usually only organizes 1-2 national championships, so in the locality we often have to work in other subjects. Usually each person is in charge of 2-3 subjects at the same time, corresponding to the athletes to play 5-6 award each year,” a coach shared.

For that reason, we will not be too surprised to see a coach who used to be the team leader in a boxing tournament, then appear in the Kickboxing, or traditional martial arts, Pencak Silat … This comes from the actual situation of the units when the athletes, the coach still have to take part in many competitions.

So having to become “athlete 3 subjects” has affected the performance of the boxers? The view of this is very different. For groups that only trained a martial art for one athlete, they think that specialization is a prerequisite for training good boxers.

For localities using “3 -subject subjects”, they still have to try to maintain good achievements with their relatively thin athletes.
