Shortly after confirming the schedule of the Boxing Championships of the nationwide teams of 2022, the Vietnam Boxing Federation (VBF) also announced the tournament rules. Accordingly, the tournament will be held within 10 days from March 22 to March 31 at Da Mon Stadium, My Tho City, Tien Giang Province. This is considered a rehearsal, the last choice for the members of the Vietnamese boxing team before the 31st SEA Games in May.
The Boxing Championship of the national teams nationwide 2022 will have 2 ages, including young athletes (17-18 years old) and adult (19-40 years old). The boxers will compete a total of 27 sets of medals at each age group, including 14 weight classes for men and 13 weight classes for women. Each match lasts 3 rounds, each 3 minutes and the break between the half is 1 minute.
As a major national tournament right before the 31st SEA Games, the Boxing Championship of the National Teams nationwide 2022 is expected to gather many leading athletes of Vietnamese boxing. It is likely that the two boxers who have attended the Olympic Games such as Nguyen Van Duong and Nguyen Thi Tam; Or the professional punchers Nguyen Thi Thu Nhi, Tran Van Thao, Truong Dinh Hoang … will all participate to win tickets to the SEA Games.
Earlier in the 2019 SEA Games held in the Philippines, the Vietnamese boxing team won 1 gold medal, 5 gold medals and 2 bronze medals, ranked 3rd of the total number of delegations attending the boxing. The only person who won the gold medal for Boxing Vietnam in the tournament 3 years ago was the puncher Nguyen Thi Tam in the 51kg weight class for women. She defeated Irish Magno, Filipino boxer to win the championship.
In the past, Best Boxing Vietnam has ever won in the SEA Games in the 2015 tournament in Singapore. That year, the Vietnam Boxing team ranked second in the whole delegation with 3 gold medals, 1 gold medal and 2 bronze medals. Those who won the gold medal that year for Boxing Vietnam were Truong Dinh Hoang (75kg male), Nguyen Thi Yen (51kg of women) and Le Thi Bang (54kg of women).
