At the end of the Asian boxing U22 Championship, Vietnamese boxers excelled in winning 1 gold medal and 3 bronze medals. More notably, this achievement comes from 5 boxers of the Vietnamese boxing team to attend the tournament, and they are all female athletes. No male boxer was summoned to recruit this international tournament.
In some recent tournaments such as the Asian Boxing Championship 2022, where Nguyen Thi Tam fighters won the championship and stepped up to the No. 1 position in the world, Boxing Vietnam also has no male boxer. Accompanying Nguyen Thi Tam attended the tournament that time was athlete Nguyen Thi Huong, who practiced Tam in the Hanoi team.
Explaining that no male boxer of Boxing Vietnam has participated in two recent international tournaments, a coach said this is not a random phenomenon. In fact, the achievement of Boxing Vietnam in the international arena mainly comes from female fighters. Boxing Vietnamese women has more potential for development.
Besides Nguyen Thi Tam, Vietnamese women's boxing also has many prominent faces such as Vo Thi Kim Anh, Vuong Thi Vy, Tran Thi Linh. They are all martial artists who have gained high achievements in regional and international tournaments, making Vietnam become a female power in the female boxing boxing in the eyes of experts.
In the opposite direction, the South Vietnamese boxing is not too strong compared to other countries. For example, at the last 31 SEA Games, Vietnamese boxers all received defeats quickly after the outer round. They are inferior to rivals from two boxing powers, Philippines and Thailand.
“At the training trip to Thailand to prepare for the 31st SEA Games, members of the Vietnam Boxing Team in the same place as Thailand and the Philippines. The Thai team has a lot of boxers, divided into two squad A and B. their Team A practiced with the Philippines, and they only let B practice with Vietnam to balance,” a team member shared.
