On May 1, the World Boxing Championship 2023 took place the opening ceremony with the first matches. This year's tournament is held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, gathering 538 athletes from 107 countries to attend. This is a large -scale championship of Boxing high achievement, with a total bonus up to 5.2 million USD.
With the goal of putting all the efforts for the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese boxing team does not send any athletes to the World Boxing Championship 2023. Instead, 8 male players of the Vietnam boxing team will attend the 32nd SEA Games in different weight classes. They are all martial artists who have just won the national championship, and have good achievements recently.
Like previous SEA Games, the core of the South Vietnamese boxing team includes the fighters of the army. Tran Duc Tho, Nguyen Linh Phung, Bui Phuoc Tung and Doan Ngoc Minh Hieu are military fighters competing at SEA Games 32. They also account for 50% of the South Vietnamese boxing team.
The remaining 4 boxers of the South Vietnamese boxing team include Bac Ninh boxers (Nguyen Van Duong, Nguyen Manh Cuong), Hanoi (Tran Van An) and Dong Nai (Vu Thanh Dat). Of the 4 athletes above, Nguyen Van Duong is a boxer who attended the Tokyo Olympic Games. However, at the 31st SEA Games, Nguyen Van Duong could not play because he had Covid-19 before the opening day.
In addition to 8 male boxers, the Vietnamese boxing team also has 3 other female boxers preparing to leave Cambodia, Nguyen Thi Tam, Ha Thi Linh and Nguyen Thi Phuong Hoai. Boxing SEA Games 32 program has 17 sets of medals, but due to the limit of the host country, Vietnam can only attend up to 11 contents.
