At the MMA trophy event organized by the Vietnam Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF), the focus of the event was the competition between Nguyen Cat Tung and Aleksey Filonenko.
This is the most awaited match for the event, because both fighters are famous people in the Vietnamese martial arts village, both experienced warriors on the MMA movement in recent years.
However, unfortunately, despite many moments of technical and beautiful switches, Nguyen Cat Tung had to receive the first failure of the match.
Acknowledging that opponent Aleksey Filonenko had a very skillful and excellent performance, but Cat Tung identified the issues of choosing a new weight is his main problem in the last loss.
“As everyone knows, this is an event held right after removing the isolation command, so for a long time I have no intensity and good training pace,” Cat Tung shared with Thethao.vn.
“The cutting of the scale directly affects the way I approached this event. During the time I received the rafter, my body was quite big, 82kg. I really didn't have enough time to squeeze the weight weight I or I was 70kg.”
That might be the reason for me to not have the best form – this is not a weight to fight my MMA.
Unable to risk the health reduction of 12kg to 70kg familiar, Nguyen Cat Tung chose to play in a weight of 77kg. Unfortunately, although Cat Tung had the experience of Jiu Jitsu competition at this weight class, playing MMA at 77kg was a completely different problem.
“Grappling, I can fight in a big weight class, but when I have to fight striking or when I need to kick the punch, the weight will always be a factor that directly affects the punch force. 77kg is not the advantage that I will choose to fight MMA or Striking,” Cat Tung concluded.
Nguyen Cat Tung is the name that many community audiences know when it comes to the MMA movement competition in Vietnam.
The boxer born in 1996 won two gold medals in the Jujitsu championship in 2019 in the content of martial arts (GI) and no martial arts (No-gi) before being sent to attend the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines.
Not only is a Grappling boxer, Nguyen Cat Tung also has a “hard” striking skill – the National Boxing Sports Circular medal is a testament to this.
With a good, diverse and comprehensive skill set, Cat Tung is expected to be one of the first “gods” of MMA Viet village, especially when martial arts can be legally organized in Vietnam.
