On the afternoon of July 11, Vietnam time, ESPN held the annual Espy Awards to honor the best athletes, moments, games and sports of the year. In the category “Best MMA boxer”, Nurmagomedov – who retired as UFC's Lightweight Championship was honored to receive this award.
Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov is currently the former Lightweight championship in UFC, he ranked on the table of the strongest boxers all in the world's largest MMA tournament. He is also the only champion who holds 29 records on MMA, with 14 wins at UFC – the longest chain of the Lightweight's history.
When playing at UFC, Khabib continued to set a series of records in this tournament with the highest number of rivals in one match (21 times when confronting Abel Trujillo). With material skills, grappling and ground-and-pound were rated No. 1 in UFC, Khabib became the Lightweight champion at UFC 223 after surpassing Al Iaquinta. He also had a belt protection match in the biggest and most noisy event in UFC history when confronting Conor McGregor.
The fighter nicknamed “The Eagle” Khabib Nurmagomedov played the final match last October when confronted with Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 254 to unify the Lightweight belt. After the victory over Gaethje, the 32 -year -old puncher announced his retirement from the sport that he had been attached for a long time.
Khabib Nurmagomedov won the “Best MMA boxer” award to other heavy candidates such as the current champion of Heavyweight UFC Francis Ngannou, Amanda Nunes and Rose Namajunas.
