IOC recognizes the World Boxing as the International Boxing Management Union

In February 2025, World Boxing raised the number of members to 78. According to the current regulations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), a sports management organization/organization that wants to be recognized at the world level must have a minimum of 75 members. World Boxing has surpassed this lowest number.

In addition to ensuring the minimum number of members, World Boxing has established 4 continental levels to manage Boxing under them. This shows that the World Boxing has made a big step in replacing the International Boxing Association (IBA), the unit that has been deposed by the IOC.

The latest members of the World Boxing include Kosovo, Syria, Hungary, Malawi, Estonia and Switzerland. The number of members of the World Boxing has increased significantly when they do not force countries to separate from IBA, but can operate in parallel in both organizations at the same time.

Despite many members, World Boxing is still underestimated compared to IBA for organization and management. This unit also does not have strong financial resources. If they continue to depend on IOC like the past, it can lead to another separatist in the future.

Another important point that can affect the future of the World Boxing is the new presidential election. Mr. Thomas Bach, the incumbent president will resign in late June 2025, after 2 working terms. The new President of the IOC may change many policies compared to the past, including the viewpoint with transgender athletes, as well as conflicts with IBA.
