Recently, Conor McGregor wrote on Twitter suggesting UFC to create a new belt named English, so that this belt appeared in the upcoming rematch with Dustin Poirier in July.
The idea of the “McGregor Belt” has been mentioned by Conor since 2016, when McGregor claimed that he was in a superior position compared to other boxers and deserved a title for himself.
“It doesn't matter, weight, weight, anything else, or there is a certain championship that is being scrambled,” Conor said in the press conference before UFC 157. “I should have a belt. Because I, myself, deserve a title of myself.”
“It doesn't matter which is Featherweight, Lightweight or Welterweight. It will be the McGregor championship belt!”
Sharing this old video on Twitter, McGregor added:
“It is time for this idea to come true for the upcoming match. I have asked UFC to create this McGregor championship. Made from rose gold and Ruby will be a good idea, it will be as rare as the Patek watch.”
Conor McGrgor and Dustin Poirier will clash for the third time in the summer of 2021, expected to be on July 10. The idea of the McGregor belt somewhat coincided with the intention of UFC when creating the BMF (Baddest Motherf–R) belt that was in the hands of boxer Jorge Masvidal.
