Canelo Alvarez faced quite serious injury on the left hand after defeating Gennady Golovkin 'GGG' at the second rematch in September. The 32 -year -old boxer said he would have surgery when he even “could not hold a glass”.
Shortly after the match, Canelo's surgery was successful. Recently, he posted a short video about the stitching on his personal Instagram and updated his current situation. The Mexican puncher also revealed the injury originating from the glove with Caleb Plant in November 2021. And the situation became more serious after the match with 'GGG'.
“This injury originates from the match against Caleb Plant. But I reassured myself like 'it's okay, and will recover myself,” Canelo said. “And then I gradually felt worse and needed surgery.”
“My injury has nothing to do with the bone. I have ligament damage, close to the knee injury of the players. I think I will need more time to rest. Last year, I had 4 times in 11 months and most likely the reason for this injury. Maybe I will return in May, or September next year,” the 32 -year -older added.
After recovering the injury, it is likely that the next opponent that Canelo is directed to is Dmitry Bivol. The 31-year-old Russian boxer Light-Heavyweight defeated Canelo in May 2022. But before that, Bivol will enter the match to protect the WBA championship with Gilberto Ramirez on Saturday at Abu Dhabi.
