ASBC continues to hold a voting conference to join World Boxing

In the latest announcement of the Asian Boxing Federation (ASBC), the agency said they had a meeting of the executive committee on September 22. The content of the meeting revolves around the continued efforts to keep the boxing subject in the coming Olympic Games, by letting ASBC join the World Boxing.

However, ASBC's joining World Boxing encountered obstacles from the members themselves. At 2 meetings in late 2023 and August, 2024, the majority of ASBC members still voted to support membership with the International Boxing Association (IBA), instead of joining the World Boxing.

In the meeting in late August24, only 37/51 members of ASBC participated in the vote. Among them, 21 countries continue to oppose the World Boxing, compared to 15 support members and an invalid vote. On that basis, ASBC continues to make an effort to mobilize to join the World Boxing.

According to information from ASBC, they will hold an extraordinary conference on November 23 in Thailand. Here, ASBC members will continue to vote to decide on joining the World Boxing. To show this effort, Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, President of ASBC, asked to withdraw from IBA.

The move from ASBC also shows another message. They will continuously organize the conference and vote, until the desired results (most members agree to join the World Boxing). However, most likely the majority of ASBC members will not agree with this decision.
