Tran Van Thao was born on April 23, 1992 in Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City. Born and raised in a normal family without martial arts, he was the second of three brothers. From an early age, Tran Van Thao often flipped with his peers.
Tran Van Thao started practicing boxing when he was 16 years old. When he first practiced, he weighed less than 40kg while his height was 1m68, everyone who saw him did not think he could later become an Asian WBC champion.
After a period of practice, the potential of boxing inside the herb poured out. He found his passion for boxing, and determined the goals of his life to pursue.
In 2015, Tran Van Thao started his boxing career from the Ho Chi Minh City boxing team, then moved to the national team. Since starting to study martial arts, he found himself more calm, not calculated and liked his arms and legs as before.
Throughout his professional boxing, Tran Van Thao played a total of 14 matches with 13 wins (7 wins with Knockout) and lost only 1 match.
He won countless titles and medals of all kinds, such as the national amateur boxing championship in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 52 kg; Winning the 2016 steel arena; Interim World World Boxing Council Asian Boxing Council Super Fly Title, 52 kg; Award of Honorary Asian British boxers of 2017 – Asian Boxer of Year …
The first professional match of Tran Van Thao was on October 3, 2015. His opponent is Yo Han Bea (Korean) within the framework of the Vietnam -Korea professional boxing in Ho Chi Minh City. Tran Van Thao won by a point after 6 rounds.
In May 2016, Tran Van Thao excelled in winning the championship at the “Traditional Martial Arts, Boxing the excellent athletes nationwide – Let's Viet – Number 1” Championship.
Tran Van Thao's career did not stop in the country but also strongly reached the international level. As of November 23, 2017, he excelled at the Battle of Asian WBC Championship Super Flyweight to play with George Lumoly (Indonesian).
Right in the 40th second of the first half, Tran Van Thao shocked Asian boxing by defeating the Indonesian opponent and obtained a prestigious WBC championship belt, and put his name in Vietnamese boxing history when he was the first professional boxer to achieve this achievement.
After obtaining the WBC Asian Championship, Tran Van Thao continued to play and defeat the numbers with numbers in the Asian boxing village such as Richard Rosales (Filipino), Detnarong Omkrathok, Artid Bamrungauea, Wichet Sengprakhon (3 Thai boxers), Ponciano Remandiman (Filipino).
On December 21, 2019, Tran Van Thao Thuong Dai compared the Billy Dib fist with a 3 -star Australian who was rated 3 stars at Entertainment Center, Hurstville, Australia.
Experiencing 10 tense rounds with Billy Dib, Tran Van Thao first tasted failure in his professional career when losing to Billy Dib with a consensus score.
By the end of February 2020, Tran Van Thao trained his best, walked on the floor to the glove with Aries Buenavidez Filipino and won the score against this boxer after 6 rounds.
Since then, due to the complicated development of Covid-19 epidemic, Tran Van Thao has not had the opportunity to return to the arena.
Recently, the Asian WBC champion Tran Van Thao discussed and agreed with Thai champion Boonrueang Phayom together on December 19 at Trigger Boxing.
However, because Boonrueang Phayom was delayed in a flight that could not come to Vietnam as expected, the match was agreed to be moved to December 26. After that, the match continued to back to January 2, 2022 due to the difficult exit of Thailand.
Tran Van Thao is currently practicing at the Trigger Boxing gym at Tan Phu District Sports Cultural and Sports Center, focusing on training sports and professional boxers. This is also the venue for the match between England and Thai champion Boonrueang Phayom on January 2, 2022.
Currently, Tran Van Thao is married to Pham Thi Kim Phung, two married people living in Ho Chi Minh City. His wife was born in Vung Tau, his family is currently settling in Florida, USA. Tran Van Thao and Pham Thi Kim Phung have known each other since he was practicing at the National Sports Center, Da Nang, the two married after eight years of love.
