Mortal Kombat, or the old black dragon, is very familiar with generations of role -playing action gaming. This bloody game since 1997 has finally had a movie, based on the plot of Cole Young, a degraded MMA boxer who was attacked by Shang Tsung, a magician from the world outside The Outworld.
On the journey to find the answer to the dragon's redness in front of the chest, Cole Young went to Lord Raiden, one of the Earth's defenders. Later, Young will join other Earth's champions to participate in a fierce battle to determine the destiny of the world as well as The Outworld.
The Movie version of Mortal Kombat was performed by director Simon McQuoid, shooting in Australia. Chinese -origin actor Lewis was chosen to play Cole Young.
With Cole Young being a MMA fighter, Lewis Tan said he has studied quite a lot of UFC boxers along with different martial arts movements to recreate the main character image of Mortal Kombat in the most realistic way on the screen.
“When we enter the plot, you can see Cole Young is at the bottom of life,” Tan shared.
“Young used to be a MMA champion, who once believed in his own victory, once hoped in his future in the martial arts arena. But then it was difficult to come, Young failed continuously, being pinched continuously. It was a martial artist who used to be glorious before being kicked down in black mud.”
While studying the character Cole Young, the BMF Jorge Masvidal champion became Lewis Tan's inspiration. Even in the trailer of Mortal Kombat, we can witness Cole Young standing back on the iron grid before entering the battle, perfectly recreating the image of Jorge Masvidal in the match against Ben Askren at UFC 239.
“That's what Jorge Masvidal did before he lowered Ben Askren for 5 seconds and made MMA village explode,” Tan said. “The character of Cole Young also has such a horizontal and hidden temperament, which is what I want to build for the main character of Mortal Kombat.”
