After the trilogy match between Poirier (June 28, 20-5 UFC) and McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) have just ended due to the “crazy guy” McGregor who has an ankle-flipped ankle can continue to play. The President White said that a fourth match is essential for both fists.
Despite the victory that belonged to Poirier as a TKO victory, McGregor felt uncomfortable after the match ended.
It is still unclear what McGregor's injury is and how long it will recover to be able to play again but White seems to have the same viewpoint with McGregor that another match to delineate the final victory will be more reasonable.
“The battle has not ended. We cannot accept the ending match in the way it has happened. We will see the final results in another match. It is not known that Conor's situation but Poirier will work he needs to do until Conor is ready to fight again.” – White told MMA Junkie and reporters after the match at UFC 264.
White said that while waiting for McGregor to recover, he planned to arrange the match between Poirier and Charles Oliveira to compete for the Lightweight belt but unknown time and location and be likely the end of this year. Regarding the 4th match between McGregor and Poirier, White said there was no specific plan because it was unclear the recovery time to be able to return to McGregor's competition.
