On November 23, the Asian Boxing Federation (ASBC) continued to hold an extraordinary conference. The content of the meeting revolves around the vote of support, or opposing the separatist from the International Boxing Association (IBA, also known as the World Boxing Federation).
Different from the previous abnormal conference, ASBC did not consult with the National Federation of Member about “leaving IBA and joining the World Boxing of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)”. Instead, they consult that “ASBC separates from IBA and becomes an independent agency.”
In fact, the purpose and will of some ASBC individuals has not changed. ASBC President Pichai Chuhavajira (also Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Thailand) withdrew from IBA. He also accepted a new task at IOC, and Thailand publicly supported the World Boxing.
However, the goal of separating from IBA and joining ASBC's World Boxing did not become the truth. The third time within 1 year, the majority of ASBC members publicly intended to support IBA, despite their votes that could cause Boxing to disappear from the Olympic competition program.
At the extraordinary conference in November 2024, ASBC recorded 34 members participating in the meeting. The voting results showed that 23 protesters were separated from IBA. Only 10 supporters and 1 blank vote. Therefore, ASBC will still be part of IBA, according to the wishes of the majority of members.
Compared to the extraordinary conference at the end of August 24, the number of Votes supporting IBA of ASBC members has even increased, not decreased. Three months ago, 21/37 members voted to support IBA, 15 members supporting World Boxing and 1 invalid vote as prescribed.
Votes of ASBC member states show that, despite the constant World Boxing informing they have new members, the fact that the number of countries supporting them is decreasing. In contrast, IBA has increased its reputation. Besides ASBC, EUBC (European Boxing Federation) also voted to stay at IBA.
