In January 2023, the General Department of Sports and Sports issued Official Letter No. 61 on the organization of national and international championships and mass sports and sports activities in 2023. Besides, the plan to organize sports tournaments includes the 2023 National MMA championship, expected to be held in September this year.
However, in the latest dispatch to local units, the General Department of Sports said that the plan to organize the National MMA championship 2023 will have to stop. In addition, the National MMA referee training course 2023 (took place on May 21-25 in Da Nang City) was also forced to stop according to the plan.
In fact, the 2023 National MMA championship is a tournament in the high -performance sports system of MMA Vietnam. This system is completely separate from Lion Championship, which is considered a professional MMA tournament. This is also the first series of MMA events in Vietnam to be organized, methodically, taking place continuously as planned.
Initially, the 2023 National MMA championship was considered the arena to select Vietnamese boxers and representatives to attend the Asian Games and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) 2023. As the forerunner of Asian Indoor Games, AIMAG 2023 held in Thailand and promised to have hundreds of talented martial artists to compete.
Considered to be a martial art that has grown very fast in Vietnam in recent years, MMA is considered the “king” of martial arts because of its comprehensive level and high actual ability. This is the basis for VMMAF to organize professional MMA awards and high achievements, as well as training and improving the level of general martial arts referees.
