More than a week ago, the bantamweight stretch between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan ended with Petr Yan being tried to lose because of the blow on the rule. Recently, the first Maincard match of UFC Fight Night 187 between Eryk Anders and Darren Stewart had the same ending.
The incident occurred in the last minute of the first half, when Eryk Anders forced Darren Stewart to enter the cage's wall and launched the rain. While in a hurry, Anders accidentally launched a knee when the opponent was still kneeling on the floor. This has led to the unchanged match.
So why is the fight claiming to be no results, not losing? According to the Vice President in charge of UFC's legal issues, Marc Ratner, the difference between Sterling-Yan and Stewart-Anders is simply the referee's ruling of the knee.
In the battle between Sterling and Yan, referee Mark Smith said that the end of the match was intentional – causing Yan to be disqualified. Meanwhile, at UFC Vegas 21, referee Herb Dean declared that Anders's knee blow was unintentional.
“It was the referee's ruling,” Ratner said in the backstage of UFC Apex. “It depends on the referee, and if the referee can see the intention of the foul and this foul makes the battle stop, the referee can call it intentional. It is the referee's decision.”
If the match has reached the third half, the match results will be determined by the transcript of the judges. However, the end of the battle takes place in the middle of the 1st, so it has no result, according to Ratner.
It is worth noting (and somewhat irony) that last week, when Darren Stewart was asked his feelings about Sterling-Yan's violation of the law, 30-year-old boxer answered as follows:
“I just want to fight, MMA now so many rules.”
It can be seen that the law that he did not really enjoy saved him a goal to see.
