The No. 1 candidate for Middleweight Robert Whittaker shared with the media at the UFC Vegas 24 post -press conference. At this event, he won against Kelvin Gastelum.
For the former medium champion, he believes that the rematch against the current champion of Israel Adesanya should be the next competition. He listed the reasons he believed that UFC should arrange for him to fight “The Last Style Bender”.
“There is no other opponent. Only the next match (Adesanya). I protected the number one three times before the big names,” Whittaker said about winning the 4th -class Jared Cannonier candidate.
“I was on the radio with Gastelum when Costa announced to withdraw a month before the event happened.”
Although Robert Whittaker won against Gastelum, he was not too happy because first, Gastelum only had 1 month to prepare. Second, Gastelum is 8th on the rankings, while Paulo Costa is the second boxer.
“I wish I would fight Costa, I suddenly took that chance as soon as it happened,” Whittaker said when asked about his feelings when Gastelum replaced Costa.
“I moved from the second rival to the eighth rival. Going from the number three to the eight, no matter who the opponent was, I would still fight. I have adjusted the strategy and once again I have a victory over a difficult opponent.”
