Over the past month, Aljamain Sterling has faced a storm of criticism from former King Petr Yan, other boxers and fans.
The reason is partly because he was the first champion to achieve the belt due to the rival law of the competition. But more worth it, it was because Sterling said that he did not want to rematch with Yan, who believed that he was on the momentum of victory before accidentally breaking the law.
“This guy (Petr Yan) is being rewarded by UFC a rematch. I understand this is a big match, but in my opinion, the boxers cannot violate the rules of the game and just as if nothing has happened,” Sterling said in a recent interview.
“If so, I can jump out of the cage if I want, go to get a conversation with the support person on the other side or the blow after the end if I like it, and there will be nothing happened, right. I feel that the rule is a law for a reason.”
“We have to enforce the law, otherwise there is a law to do. I feel that guy should have been suspended and UFC must pay me a lump of money. That injury can make my career go to life.”
The attitude of Aljamain Sterling was criticized by many people as a type of unsightly food, especially when the championship that Sterling won from Petr Yan's foul, not absolutely not because Sterling defeated Yan.
However, former King Jose Aldo recently showed his defense of Sterling. Aldo said that Sterling became nothing wrong, and therefore he had the right to choose the match as a true champion.
“I consider Aljamain as a worthy champion,” Aldo said. “The fact that Aljamain became a champion was not his fault. He did not launch an invalid attack or anything similar. On the contrary, Petr was the one who made the mistake and had to pay for his mistake.”
“More fair, you cannot say Sterling is not the champion. It doesn't matter whether or not it is eliminated, the rules must be followed.”
