Over the past year, the audience has never seen Jon Jones – the greatest champion in UFC – returning to the stage. After defending the title of successful championship in early 2020, Jon Jones affirmed that he would give up the current title in Light Heavyweight and challenge himself in the new weight of Heavyweight.
It takes a lot of time and effort to really prepare for an Jon Jones with the best form in the heavy version, Jones also shared that the preparation work to play in Heavyweight will make him absent on the floor in a long time.
However, it is not all the reasons why Jon Jones “gap” on the floor.
Recently, Jon Jones made a statement proposing that UFC would have to spend more money for himself to be motivated to play in Heavyweight. On his personal Twitter page, Jones wrote:
“The Heavyweight champion is now 38 years old, while I am 33. Remember my words: I will win the belt after all in Heavyweight. So I don't need to be too hasty. I will continue to practice muscle gain, complete work outside the cage.
The majority of boxers always aim to keep two throne in two weight classes, like the way Conor McGregor or Daniel Cormier used to. But Jon Jones frankly abandoned the title of Light Heavyweight then announced the weight.
“The reason I gave up the Light Heavyweight belt was because to prepare for the match in weight, it took a lot of time.” Jones spoke on Bleacher Report.
“I don't want to be the one who hindered the development of Light Heavyweight. I felt myself ruled this weight for too long.
