According to the president of IBA, IOC currently does not do much in supporting athletes, coaches and countries developing Boxing high achievement. One of them is that the athletes participating in the Olympic Games almost have no bonuses from the IOC, thereby making them lose their peak motivation.
“The martial artists who won a medal should be rewarded with the value and efforts they spent. But now, the Olympic Medal does not reflect these things. Besides glory, the athlete who won a medal at the Olympic Games needs to be rewarded at a commensurate level,” the Chairman of IBA said.
One of the evidence given by IBA is the difference in the level of IOC for officials and athletes and coaches participating in the Olympics. Many athletes attending the Olympic Games have a lack of living conditions, attended with the national budget, and did not receive money even though IOC had great profits from revenue sources.
At the Paris Olympic Games 2024, IBA did not participate in the execution of Boxing because they were deprived of the rights of the IOC. However, the organization still declared bonuses for athletes, coaches and hosts when the athletes reached the quarterfinals or more. The Olympic champion is also hung up to $ 100,000.
On the IOC side, this is the last period they manage and organize Boxing. IOC is mobilizing countries to join the new Boxing organization called World Boxing, instead of continuing to stick with IBA. Also according to IOC, in case the World Boxing is not recognized, Boxing will be eliminated from the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic competition program.
