The match between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor will lead UFC 264 on Sunday this week in Las Vegas, with a record of one win – one loss in their previous two matches.
Referring to Poirier, it is impossible not to mention that he almost pocketed the Lightweight Championship earlier this year, after defeating McGregor in the rematch.
However, instead of choosing to change the title of the championship, Dustin Poirier accepted a different clash with McGregor, instead of confronting Charles Oliveira or other names of weight class in a belt match.
“If I earn 5 to 10 times the match, I will choose to rematch with Conor. I am a father, a husband, I have priorities, have my mouths to eat in the house.”
“If I chose a belt match, I would not have much profit from the direct viewing fee. The salary from the match contract for that match would not even be equal to one -third of my match for the rematch with Conor,” Dustin Poirier said in a recent interview with ESPN.
Currently Dustin Poirier is living with his wife, Jolie, and her daughter Parker Noelle, four years old. He also said the decision to rematch with Conor McGregor at the upcoming UFC 264 was relatively easy.
“If I am the best boxer in the world, I will still be the one who defeats Conor and will still be the one who won the belt. It was like doubling my own glory.”
