Since the defeat to superstar Conor McGregor, the former Jose Aldo champion is very difficult to regain its position in the UFC battle. After many losses in the Featherweight class, this Brazilian boxer tried to force the Bantamweight to weigh but did not reap any outstanding achievements.
Despite being favored to receive the right to compete for the Bantamweight vacant championship, Aldo made fans disappointed when they lost to TKO before the young boxer Petr Yan.
In September 2020, Aldo won the first victory in this scale against Marlon Vera. Now he wants to confront the former Dominick Cruz champion, in order to make a stepping stone to win the right to compete for the championship in the future.
“This will be a big battle,” Aldo said on Mmafighting. “Both of us were once the champion in WEC and UFC. Therefore, this match will be very attractive.”
Initially, Aldo proposed to stand the same stage with Cody Garbrandt, unfortunately UFC was not interested in this match. Therefore Aldo was forced to turn to Dominick Cruz.
“After the victory over Vera, I offered to confront TJ Dillashaw and Garbrandt, but no one accepted. I am missing the opponent. I have challenged Cruz for a long time and everyone expects this match,” Aldo added.
Jose Aldo is currently ranked 5th in the Bantamweight rankings. This boxer needs at least one more victory to maintain the chance to fight the throne, especially when this weight class is quite confused because the current champion of Aljamain Sterling is avoiding the rematch against former King Petr Yan.
