Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor have been faced twice in two different weight classes. At the UFC 178 event in 2014, McGregor lowered Tko Poirier in the weight of Featherweight. By the beginning of 2021 at the UFC 257 event, Poirier revenge McGregor with the second half in the Lightweight class.
On July 10, Poirier and McGregor clash again at the UFC 264 event. According to the plan, these two boxers will play in Lightweight. But for some reason why Poirier suggested wanting to change the weight on Welterweight.
Perhaps it originated from McGregor posting Twitter saying that he was planning to rank Welterweight after regaining the throne in Lightweight. Poirier immediately answered this tweet as follows: “Football in the Welterweight class. 3 matches in 3 different weight classes.”
It is unclear whether this proposal will be agreed by the UFC Organizing Committee, but if it comes true, this will be the first pair in the history of UFC competition in 3 different weight classes. At the same time, it will make the recovery event of this rival couple more fierce.
