Recently, there was information that superstar MMA and former UFC Conor McGregor will sponsor Ireland's young team to attend the 2021 International Young MMA championship of the IMMAF Federation. The tournament will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria at EFE Marinela from July 29 to August 1.
Over the weekend, Immaf confirmed that the Irish fighter will support the team by paying the fees for the tournament, accommodation and air tickets of 27 athletes and 20 coaches.
“I wish the Irish team a lot of luck in this year's journey at this year's World Championship! From the fighter to the coach, I know our country's future is in great hands. Fight with the pride of Emerald Isle, fighting all the team! We cheer all of you. Good luck!” – Conor McGregor, who will fight Dustin Poirier on July 11, said.
It is great for all the athletes, coaches and the MMA Ireland community when Conor showed his passion for the MMA sport in this way and is helping to pave the way for the next 'Conor' to appear,” said the President of Immaf Kerrith Brown.
“We at IMMAF highly appreciated Conor's support in developing the base athletes and his support for his work (coach Conor) John Kavanagh in the MMA community as president of the Ireland mixed martial arts association.
“The meaning of this sponsorship is far beyond the financial value, has great significance for the team. This is all that IMMAF is aiming for, operating in the community to provide value from MMA for social benefits,” Brown added.
