Boxing will soon be eliminated from the Olympic competition program 2028?

After the scandal of the financial and referee system at the Rio 2016 Olympics, the International Boxing Association (IBA, formerly AIBA) had to conduct reforms to avoid being eliminated from the Tokyo 2020 or Paris 2024.

At the 2024 Olympics, Boxing will be organized by a specialized team like in Tokyo 2020. However, the hidden in the process of election of the new President led IBA to continue within the view of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

At the extraordinary conference in May, the candidates of president such as Mike Mcatee, Steve Hartley or Lars Brovil were eliminated for violation of the election rules. According to a survey of the sports arbitration court (CAS), the current IBA president of Umar Kremley also made similar mistakes but not subject to penalties.

CAS has supported the representative of the Dutch Boxing Federation, Boris Van der Vorst in the appeal when he was eliminated from the president's election. However, in the recent session, IBA voted to reject Mr. Boris's appeal.

This makes the future of Boxing at the Los Angeles Olympic Games 2028 even darker than ever. Currently, the list of competitions at the 2028 Olympics has no boxing name. With the issues in the IBA operating team, this agency will not have much time to convince IOC to fill out the name of this sport in mid -2023.
