As one of the three Vietnamese boxers playing on the first day of competition of the World Women's Boxing Championship 2023, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tran competed in 52kg weight. Her opponent in this match is Venelina Poptoleva, veteran Bulgarian boxer. Poptoleva once won the world youth and is the current European runner -up.
Before a superior opponent in terms of competition experience, Ngoc Tran had a reasonable match. She constantly moved to overcome the opponent, and launched accurate punches to score points. On the other side, Poptoleva also played excellently by launching a series of punches to return to Ngoc Tran.
