After the UFC 259 event, Aljamain Sterling was the one who won the championship thanks to the attack on Petr Yan's foul on the pillow.
Capital right after the match, Sterling offered an early rematch because he did not feel worthy of this title. However, just a few days after the match, Aljamain Sterling said that he “didn't care if UFC chose me another opponent”. This caused Petr Yan to criticize Sterling as the one who “said one side to do one another”.
“Sterling is the one who speaks two words.
“He demanded to rematch me, but he also wanted to face Henry Cejudo. Now everyone says Sterling doesn't want to fight me again, because he knows that he will lose if he remains.
On social networks, Aljamain Sterling recently posted an image of him confronting former King Henry Cejudo. This seems to imply Sterling will compare with Cejudo instead of remaining Russian boxer Petr Yan.
Worth mentioning is, Henry Cejudo has retired from May 2020. Currently, UFC has never made a move to agree with the Sterling vs Cejudo match.
On his side, Petr Yan said he only took a month to prepare for the rematch.
“The UFC Organizing Committee contacted and asked me when I could return to the stage. I said directly that it only takes 1 to 2 months to be enough, whenever I can return to the ring,” Yan said.
“The last match I paid a very expensive price when it was hit on the wrong pillow. I lost the title of the championship, losing the benefits accompanied by the remuneration. Now the rematch is a reasonable solution, it needs to take place as soon as possible.”
