To prepare for the 32nd SEA Games, Cambodia sent athletes to compete in many domestic and international tournaments. In particular, Boxing is a subject that this country focuses on investment. Cambodian boxers recently continuously played abroad and had many impressive achievements.
However, most Cambodian boxers at this time played in the weight class of Nam. Therefore, the host country SEA Games 32 has planned to play the Boxing program with many weight classes for men. This goes against the trend of the Olympic, and makes it difficult for a strong nation of women's boxing like Vietnam.
In recent Olympic Games, Boxing has been adjusted to the competition content in the direction of reducing the men's weight class, and increasing the women's weight term. That trend continues to take place in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games, when the difference in the number of medals of men and women in Boxing will no longer differ significantly.
However, within a regional sports festival such as SEA Games and Cambodia have the right to adjust the competition content if some countries approve. In fact, in previous SEA Games, some countries even completely removed the female boxing from the competition program because they did not have strengths.
In Southeast Asia, strong countries of women's boxing include Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines. In particular, Vietnam has played very impressively in the recent SEA Games, when 3 boxers won the gold medal: Nguyen Thi Tam (52kg female), Vuong Thi Vy (57kg women) and Tran Thi Linh (60kg female).
