“The Russian boxer is holding the achievements in Lion Championship, Aleksei Filonenko will return the 77kg championship because of his back injury,” the Organizing Committee announced. Injury is also the reason why Filonenko has not been able to play in 2023 with the MMA Vietnam Championship.
In the past, Aleksei Filonenko was one of the pioneering faces to join MMA Vietnam. He appeared at the 2021 MMA Cup event. Entering 2022, Filonenko continued to attend Lion Championship and won the 77kg weight championship and Nha Trang Sports Unite martial arts club.
Aleksei Filonenko is also the third champion of Lion Championship the first season no longer sticking to the MMA playground. Other champions withdrew include Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat and Tran Quang Loc. Both boxers have now moved to training.
In the Filonenko notification from Lion Championship, the Organizing Committee gave thanks to this boxer. The fact that Filonenko left the tournament also became a weight of 77kg weight becoming a dispute between many strong boxers like Duong Duc Tung, Luu Nhan Nghia and Jesse James Bernal.
Besides the boxers who were on the rankings, the weight of the male championship 77kg of the new season also had many faces preparing to join. Many of them are foreign athletes, who have had certain achievements in international tournaments before coming to Vietnam.
