Hoang Ngoc Mai was the last boxer of Vietnam to play at the World Women's Boxing Championship 2025 on March 12. The previous fighters were Ngo Ngoc Linh Chi and Tran Thi To, both of them had failed. Compared to the two juniors, Ngoc Mai has more experience, and she also meets the softer opponent.
The obstacle of Hoang Ngoc Mai in the first match was Genesis Palma, 19 -year -old boxer Venezuelan. Palma has almost never appeared in previous international tournaments, and this is also the first year she stepped up her age. The missing experience is something that can be seen in Palma.
Hoang Ngoc Mai started better, when her punches soon reached the opponent. At the end of the first half, all 5 referees graded Vietnamese boxers. Entering the second half, Palma took the initiative to attack, but her attacks were not really effective.
In the second half, only 2/5 of the Palma referee won the point. The three referees to win the first 2 rounds helped Hoang Ngoc Mai almost hold the victory. Losing the point that made Palma more attacked in the final half, because it was the only way for this boxer to turn the final result.
A little surprise took place, when Palma dominated in the first half of the third half. But at the next time, Hoang Ngoc Mai regained the game. Once again, Palma was only scored by 2/5 of the referee. Hoang Ngoc Mai won the final 4-1 (29-28, 28-29, 30-27, 29-28, 30-27), thereby reaching the next round.
Thus, after the 1/8 matches in the World Boxing Championship 2025 ended, Vietnam had 3 fighters in the quarterfinals: Vo Thi Kim Anh (54kg female), Ha Thi Linh (63kg female) and Hoang Ngoc Mai (weight of 70kg women). All 3 boxers will continue to play on March 13.
