Dustin Poirier has come closer to the Lightweight Championship title when challenging the defending champion Charles Oliveira in the last UFC 269 event. Although playing quite well, Poirier had to surrender to Oliveira with a strangling phase after Rear-Naked Choke in the third half of the match.
“It was so bad. I practiced very hard to step on the floor to fight this world championship. Again failed again. I was really heartbroken!” Poirier shared.
When asked about his opponent, Dustin Poirier said that although he played very hard, his opponent played better and deserved to be the champion.
If you are a Dustin fan, you can see how difficult Poirier has experienced, this puncher has tried hard to pursue the dream of becoming the UFC champion.
Dustin Poirier also said he had no plan for the next match, first he needed to rest, need to calm down and return to his family before continuing to honestly to become a champion in the future.
“I can fight another belt match. But I am not sure if I want to do it or not, I have to look back in my mirror and ask myself about this. The answer will be available after a few days or a few weeks. I need to be calm to see what my heart tells me,” Poirier said.
Earlier this year, Dustin Poirier mentioned retirement.
At the age of 32, Poirier is not too “old” to continue the MMA career, but not too young before the emerging punches. But many fans believe that Dustin Poirier will stand up after a fall and continue the journey to find the championship.
