The UFC homepage has confirmed Nghiem Van Y, the reigning championship of the MMA Lion Championship, on the list of boxing selection of the tournament. In the most favorable case, Nghiem Van Y can participate in UFC boxing selection event in Shanghai in May 2025.
Nghiem Van Y is a former Wushu player in Vietnam, who won a medal in a meditator (fighting against) at ASIAD 2018. At the time of the new MMA Vietnam championship appeared, Nghiem Van Y was one of the first boxers to register to compete, and have very impressive results.
At Lion Championship in the first season, Nghiem Van Y is a 65kg male weight champion. A year later, he lost the battle to protect the Brazilian rival Felipe Negochadle. But by 2024, Nghiem Van Y won Van Van Minh to regain the challenge of the champion. After that, he won the Knock-Out Negochadle in the rematch.
In recent times, Nghiem Van Y has been one of the most active MMA boxers to practice. He has participated in the MMA athletes training class in China. That helps this boxer have a comprehensive MMA competition skill, besides the forte of a martial artist.
Before Nghiem Van Y, UFC once noted a number of other overseas Vietnamese boxers participating in the competition, typically Cung Le. However, they are all mature athletes in the martial arts training environment abroad. Unlike the above boxers, Nghiem Van Y is the first “pure Vietnamese” MMA boxer of Vietnam to reach the UFC arena.
