After defeating Charles Oliveira late last year, Islam Makhachev officially inherited the Lightweight UFC championship belt that belonged to Khabib. He has been considered the most deserved boxer inheriting this belt since the “Russian Eagle” declared the retirement. At the age of 32, Makhachev can continue to play and dominate for many more years.
However, the fact that Makhachev entered the golden age did not mean that he was concerned by UFC. The champion has just criticized UFC for lack of the Lightweight Championship match between him and Alexander Volkanovski. Makhachev said that UFC did not promote the stature of this event.
“This is a big event, a big match, but not advertised properly,” Makhachev said. The UFC champion added: “Dana White seems to have a problem, he doesn't care much about the match. Many things that should have been better but not done. I even met Volkanovski exactly once at Sydney.”
In fact, both Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski are both champions. The match between them could be the decisive match of UFC's strongest boxer at the present time. Therefore, Makhachev has a reason to complain when he feels that UFC does not promote the event at the stature of the match between the top boxers.
Before the match against Alexander Volkanovski, Islam Makhachev was more appreciated. He played in the balance class, and had just had a convincing victory. The only disadvantage of Makhachev in the upcoming match is that he no longer has Khabib accompanying in the training area as before.
