On August 31 at Al Ain, UAE, the Asian Boxing Federation (ASBC) held an unusual meeting. The content of the meeting revolves around the voting support to join the World Boxing, organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), or stays in the International Boxing Association (IBA) as before.
ASBC has 51 members, but in this meeting, only 36 representatives participated. This is also the number of votes issued by ASBC, to decide to join the World Boxing or stay in IBA. In the context of Asian votes that determine the Boxing destiny at Olympic, the unexpected results have appeared.
According to the vote test results from ASBC, 1/36 invalid votes (selected both). 14/36 votes support to join the World Boxing, and there are 21 votes of declaration to continue to stay in IBA. With this result, ASBC is likely to stay in IBA, instead of joining the World Boxing as expected.
Why say ASBC is “likely” to stay in IBA, not “sure”? The reason is because after 1 day after the voting results, ASBC has not yet officially notified about this. That also means, ASBC is seeking to meet, voting at least once again and then announced.
Earlier, at the end of 2023, ASBC had an extraordinary meeting to get opinions about leaving IBA. During the vote that took place a year ago, the majority of ASBC members also protested the separatist opinions, and continued to stay in IBA in the near future.
