Boxing, which was a sport associated with the Olympics right from the ancient Greece. Therefore, it is difficult to imagine that this sport will be eliminated from the Olympics.
Even so, the risk of this happens. More specifically, the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, weightlifting and boxing warns are “two problems of the Olympic movement” and are at risk of being eliminated from the LA 2028 Olympics program.
Bach expressed his deepest concern with Boxing, believing that this sport needs to continue significant reform after financial issues and judges scandals at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
“Aiba must prove that they have successfully resolved continuous concerns around the management, financial transparency and sustainability as well as the integrity of arbitration and evaluation processes.”
Besides Boxing, two other sports are likely to be eliminated by weightlifting and horse riding in the five modern combination subjects.
Bach said that there would be a “roadmap” for Boxing, Aiba, as well as the weightlifting federation (IWF) and five modern coordination subjects (UIPM) to become a part of La Games if this sport made a series of reforms by 2023.
“Third, and this is very different from weightlifting and boxing, UIPM must complete the proposal to replace horse riding and for overall performance. IWF and its future leadership must prove their transformation in the direction of compliance and cultural changes effectively. Moreover, they have to successfully resolve the ratio of doping use in sports and ensure the integrity of its resistance to its Doping program.
