“We will definitely check doping with all athletes winning the medal at the Boxing Championship of strong teams nationwide 2022,” said Dr. Vu Trong Hai. “People need to be aware of checking doping not targeting anyone, but to ensure fairness for athletes to participate in the competition.”
The Boxing Championships of the national strong teams 2022 have 312 athletes attending 38 delegations of 32 units. The age of 17-18 has 121 athletes (46 female, 75 male). 19-40 years old has 191 athletes (79 women, 112 men). The athletes are expected to compete in 54 sets of medals.
With each competition content, 1 gold medal, 1 gold medal and 2 bronze medals to athletes, is expected to have about 200 boxers awarded medals, equivalent to 200 doping test samples. This is a huge number, especially in the context of more than 300 athletes participating in the tournament (accounting for about 2/3).
Regarding doping, two countries in Southeast Asia, Thailand and Indonesia, have received very heavy penalties because there are many positive athletes with banned substances. In some recent sports tournaments, Indonesia and Thailand's flags have not appeared under the penalty of the International Doping Prevention Agency.
In the case of Indonesia, the country has planned to host Para Games 2021 replacing Vietnam and held at the end of 2021. But due to the penalty related to doping, Indonesia could not organize any sports tournament and were forced to move to this year.
