The reason is because according to WBO's regulations, a female fighter who won the championship must be protected within 6 months, otherwise the belt will be recovered and leave the next battle.
To clarify this issue, Thethao.vn discussed with Thu Nhi's managing unit, Cocky Buffalo. They said: “WBO's regulations on belt competition and fulfilling the obligation to protect the Boxing championship are very tight. It is true that the WBO has the time for the time to protect the world championship within 6 months, not 9 months or 2 years.”
“In the WBO letter to us about the battle between Thu Nhi and Etsuko Tada in October last year, it was clearly stated: The fighter won the obligation to protect the championship within 180 days since the match took place. This is the fact that we have informed Nhi, because I need to comply with WBO's regulations and charter,” Cocky Buffalo added.
On Thu Nhi's side, this boxer will not attend the 31st SEA Games as the original plan. Instead, Nhi prepared to go to Istanbul, Türkiye to compete in the World Women's Boxing Championship 2022. She is also the only Vietnamese boxer to play in this tournament, because the remaining athletes will attend the 31th SEA Games.
